Christianity and the exponential growth of the indigenous church are coming under close scrutiny in India. Regulations and legislation are on the horizon, and if passed, could curtail conversions to the Christian faith and hamper mission work. This is a very critical time that calls for an urgent review of our priorities.

First and foremost, adequate measures should be taken to ensure that the present rate of growth and the expanding church become sustainable. The investment of time, efforts and resources in setting up various ministries must be strategic. In simple terms, the seeds of the gospel that are planted must grow and yield a great harvest.

Thus, training and equipping youth, men and women through intensive discipleship and robust Christian education are priorities that require our utmost attention. Rather than reliance on traditional methods, we need to develop appropriate and relevant approaches for raising indigenous gospel witness to meet the increasing spiritual and material needs of the people.

No matter the outcome, I will be encouraged because if God’s work is done in His way, at His pace and in His time, there is no doubt that we will reap the harvest. We move forward with the vision of the day when every knee will bow in His presence and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Until then we must humbly and faithfully persevere with the task entrusted to us, prevailing over every force of darkness.

Thank you for standing with us,

Sam Stephens
