Another year has dawned and with it comes promises and hopes of the many things that God has in store for us. As we eagerly welcome the year, there is no doubt that uncertainty also weighs on us.  Economic downturns, political instability, apprehensions related to social issues are all ongoing hurdles that we have to face and overcome.  The recent past that has witnessed a variety of these troubles further confirms that they are only on the rise day by day.  With increasing secularism, the meaning of spirituality is gradually turning more hazy and vague.

In the midst of all this, we as Christians are called to be the ‘salt’ and the ‘light’, bringing about transformation, renewal and advancement of the Kingdom.  Undoubtedly this is a task beyond human wisdom and strength.  Nevertheless, as much as the odds may seem to be against us, it can be completed with God’s power. It is indeed a task that is not only possible, and one that can be attempted with confidence in God; it is mandated as well.  Therefore, we are not left with a choice, but a certain obligation to be committed to this task.  God has made available to us incredible resources to accomplish it:  the promise of His constant presence, the Gospel and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

The past year despite all its challenges was one of great harvest on the field. I was personally blessed with many opportunities to get into a few of the interior regions on the field.  Such visits along with the chance to be with new believers and witness the power of God at work are the most inspiring and rewarding ministry experiences.  Discipleship, robust Christian education and leadership development are the most essential needs that call for our immediate attention as the Indigenous church continues to grow.  Your prayer and support is vital as efforts are made to meet these needs.

India, a nation that still remains vastly unreached and facing a myriad needs holds tremendous opportunities for the Kingdom. Over 70 percent of the people living in the rural villages linger and wait, drowning in poverty, illiteracy and backwardness. The Gospel and the transformation it brings remains their only hope.  It is with such a conviction that IGL presses on day after day bringing the long awaited light, witnessing incredible results. Following proclamation, its multi-pronged rural outreach programs lead to sustainable development of communities. It includes empowerment of women, education of children, training of youth in skills for employment and community health and a variety of other activities suited to every context and need.

God is opening new doors into unreached regions; receptive people groups have been identified, and we are off to a great start in 2014. Men, women, youth and children are waiting eagerly; this is no time to retract.   Nothing should stop us from moving forward with the Message at this significant time.  Thank you for the manner in which you have faithfully shared our vision and burden in the past. I am looking to you to continue doing so as we step forward in faith.

Gratefully,

Sam Stephens
